Dr Rakesh Sharma is a consultant cardiologist at Royal Brompton Hospital and Cardiology Lead for Cardiac Sarcodoidosis. He qualified in 1995 with triple honours from Guys and St Hospital' Hospital Medical School and was Proxime Accesit to the University of London Gold Medal. He underwent postgraduate training at tertiary centres in London.

Dr Sharma was awarded a British Heart Foundation fellowship to study his PhD in cardiology at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London. For his research, he won the Young Investigator Prize at the American Heart Association.
