Dr Apostolos Koffas

Dr Apostolos Koffas is a Consultant Hepatologist at Barts Health NHS Trust, working at the
Royal London Hospital and providing specialist hepatology services at Queen’s Hospital,
BHRUT. His clinical practice covers the full spectrum of hepatology, with particular interest
in chronic liver disease, advanced liver disease, viral hepatitis, and diagnostic endoscopy. He
contributes to regional service development aimed at delivering high-quality, equitable liver
care.

Dr Koffas has a strong academic interest in chronic hepatitis B and hepatitis D, with research
focused on immune mechanisms, disease stratification, and treatment optimisation. He has
published widely in peer-reviewed international journals, including the prestigious Journal
of Hepatology and the Journal of Viral Hepatitis, and remains actively involved in clinical
research at Queen Mary University of London.

He holds a leadership role in undergraduate medical education at Queen Mary University of
London, where he leads curriculum design and delivery, oversees assessment and quality
assurance, and supports students’ transition to Foundation training, contributing to the
development of the future medical workforce.
